If you've never been to Georgetown's Cultural District, it's time to get out there and see what this exciting area has in store for you. This 40-block area has been designated a special arts zone by the Texas Commission on the Arts. It's one of 51 such districts across the state, and in our real estate agents' opinions, it's one of the best. Here are some of the attractions and events that make this area such a fundamental part of Georgetown's charm.
Historical Attractions
The Cultural District has a rich and storied past in addition to its vibrant present. Historical aficionados near our Georgetown homes for sale can enjoy lectures, exhibits, and hands-on demonstrations at the Williamson Museum, an institution founded in 1997 to preserve the history of this part of Central Texas. The museum's grounds include a striking statue of Robert McAlpin Williamson, also known as "Three-Legged Willie," due to the wooden leg he used as a mobility aid after contracting tuberculous arthritis.
The Cultural District also contains some incredible examples of old Texas architecture, including the gorgeous art deco Georgetown Palace Theatre and the Grace Heritage Center.
Visual Arts and Sculpture
The visual arts are also a big part of the Cultural District's focus. The area's Georgetown Art Center features a selection of curated art exhibits that are switched out for new ones every few weeks. Nearby Southwestern University's Sarofim School of Fine Arts also has a public student gallery that displays the work of the school's budding artists. Both galleries offer the chance to view works in an incredible variety of mediums, and admission to both is free.
If you prefer to enjoy art outdoors, you'll love the Cultural District's Sculpture Tour. This ongoing event is sponsored by the City of Georgetown, decorating the streets with sculptures by some of the district's most prominent areas.
Not only does the library host sculptures on its grounds, but it also showcases the works of local artists in its exhibit area and hosts two yearly state-level events: the Art Hop competition and the Texas Society of Sculptors show. These high-profile events show off the works of the very best in Texas' art world, and they're just a few blocks away from Georgetown residents' front doors.
Live Theatre and Music
The performing arts also have a big presence in the Cultural District's art scene. Between the Sarofim School of Fine Arts and the Georgetown Palace Theatre, Georgetown residents get the chance to see dozens of live stage performances each year.
Georgetown's classical music fans have plenty of opportunities to enjoy world-class concerts in this district. Famous symphonies like the Williamson County Symphony Orchestra and the Central Texas Philharmonic play regularly at show locations around the area. There is also a free concert available at the Georgetown Public Library on the third Sunday of each month. The Cultural District even hosts the Texas Bach Festival every spring, an exciting event that allows fans of the illustrious composer to get together and share their love of his enduring work and legacy.
Georgetown's Cultural District is thriving and will keep growing and evolving as time goes on. Contact us today to start your search for your new Georgetown home with our expert team on your side.
Georgetown homes for sale are right in the midst of a top Texas community. Our real estate agents know that the vibrant culture of Georgetown is one of the most important reasons why so many people choose it for their next home. History is abundant, and the arts are always in season.
At a time when so many communities have sadly bid farewell to historic buildings, Georgetown stands out for bucking the trend. It proudly preserves its history through a long tradition of volunteerism, part of a close-knit community that is known for welcoming new neighbors.
Of the many different sights that greet you here in Georgetown, the Georgetown Palace Theatre is one that truly exemplifies the spirit of Georgetown and of Williamson County. Drawing performers from the world over, this theater has been active for nearly a century.
That makes it one of the oldest community theaters in operation here in Texas.
The Georgetown Palace Theatre Through the Years
The story of the Georgetown Palace Theatre got its start in the silent film era back in 1925. By 1929, it was one of a handful of movie theaters that screened "talkies" throughout the Lone Star State. As the technology progressed, it became a pioneer in introducing indoor air conditioning as well.
By 1936, the theater had been completely renovated in the Art Deco style that was soaring in popularity at the time. It was already a community fixture and experienced many years of prosperity. Although the business changed hands, it continued to welcome the movie-going public.
In 1989, Georgetown Palace Theatre was recognized for a seminal achievement: It became the #1 longest-running movie theater in the history of Williamson County. Soon after, a nonprofit formed, purchasing the theater on behalf of the local community.
In 1998, Georgetown Palace Theatre, Inc., launched a major renovation program. This was completed in 2001, just in time to inaugurate a season of live dramatic productions. Soon, education programs were added to the mix.
Visiting Georgetown Palace Theatre Today
Today, the Georgetown Palace Theatre is a centerpiece of the dramatic arts scene for the entire region. The schedule brims with compelling and insightful shows running the gamut from comedy to drama. It also supports a wide variety of off-site cabaret and dinner shows.
The upcoming 2022-2023 season promises to be an exciting one, with such shows as Cabaret, Silent Sky, and The Red Velvet Cake War. Flex passes are now on sale for the season, providing theater supporters with the chance to attend showings at their discretion.
The Georgetown Palace Theatre has long been a trailblazer in inclusive drama. Its adaptive shows are made with the needs of the sight- and hearing-impaired in mind. Shows include an ASL interpreter, wheelchair seating, and a hearing induction loop. The shows are free to those with special needs and their families.
Learning and Growth at the Georgetown Palace Theatre
Education has long been central to the Georgetown Palace Theatre's mission. There truly is something for everyone. Classes, camps, homeschooling, adaptive programs, and productions exclusively for theater newcomers are all available.
The slate of classes regularly embraces subjects like acting, dance, voice, improvisation, sketch comedy, playwriting, and even stage combat. There are two start dates for all classes, September and January.
The Palace Theatre is just one of Georgetown's many unique amenities. Contact us to learn more or discuss real estate opportunities here in Williamson County.
Having a yard sale is a great way to get rid of unwanted items in your home and garage. Whether you're cleaning out clutter, remodeling, or moving, our real estate agents know that hosting a yard sale can help you clean up your home and generate extra cash for household expenses or donations to your favorite charity.
When a yard sale is done right, it draws a lot of attention from neighbors, people searching for collectibles, and buyers looking for Georgetown homes for sale. That old saying, "one man's trash is another man's treasure," is what makes yard sales so popular. Here are 5 tips for making your yard sale a big success.
Start Collecting Items
Before you plan your yard sale, go through your closets, cabinets, and garage and collect all items you want to sell. First, make sure that all items for sale are in good condition. Next, focus on sorting and getting organized. To make sorting easier, group items into specific categories such as clothing, linens, kitchen wares, small appliances, toys, workout gear, gardening equipment, and household tools. Tip: It's helpful to round up some boxes before you start sorting to keep things organized.
Price Your Items
To stay organized and reduce stress, it's best to price your yard sale items ahead of time. Pricing can take a long time, so don't wait until a day or two before the sale to think about it. Allowing extra time for pricing will ensure bigger profits and a successful yard sale. Here are some helpful tips for pricing sale items:
Pick a Sale Date
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are the best days for a yard sale. Scheduling your sale on the first weekend of the month when many people get paid can also increase turnout and profits. When choosing a sale date, schedule it at least one month out to allow the necessary time for collecting, sorting, and pricing items and advertising the sale. Tip: Since it's difficult to predict the weather in advance, be prepared for rain with tents, tarps, or umbrellas to avoid canceling the sale.
Gather Sale Essentials
At least a week before the sale, make sure you have all the necessary essentials for a successful event. This includes:
Hanging rods for clothes
Paper or plastic bags
A calculator and receipt book
Advertise the Sale
You have to advertise if you want a successful yard sale. A few days before the sale, advertise your sale by hanging weatherproof signs or flyers, posting online ads, and posting on social media. Make sure you identify the items for sale, especially sought-after items like toys, electronics, tools, and collectibles. Signs and online ads should always look the same and include the yard sale dates, times, and property address.

There's a lot to explore in Georgetown, TX, a small city about 25 minutes north of Austin. Georgetown offers sweeping Texas Hill Country scenery, picturesque lagoons along the San Gabriel River, and a downtown district that has been called the "Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas."
But Georgetown's most enticing landscape may be deep underground. Join us as we explore the unique world of Inner Space Cavern, one of Texas' largest cave systems, located just minutes from these Georgetown homes for sale.
A Hidden World
Like many cave systems, the undergrown labyrinth now known as Inner Space Cavern was discovered by accident. It was actually the Texas Highway Department that stumbled upon the previously-unknown cave system in 1963 while constructing an I-35 overpass.
During the process of regulation core testing, the construction crew inadvertently drilled into the cave eight times. Unable to find any other access to what they knew they had found, they drilled a 2-foot wide hole down 33.5 feet through the limestone bedrock, creating the first usable passage into the caves.
Exploring 'Inner Space'
Through that original borehole, dubbed the 'Discovery Hole,' scientists began exploring this brand-new cave system. A larger hole was subsequently created, but to this day, no natural entrance to Inner Space Cavern has ever been found.
We now know that all-natural entryways to Inner Space Cavern have been closed for about 14,000 years. But we are far from the only ones to have ever seen the caves, as Ice Age fossils of saber-toothed tiger, wooly mammoth, and giant sloth found within attest to.
At present, several miles of passageways have been explored, some of which are now open to the public. But the majority of Inner Space Cavern's unknown depths remain unexplored. Still, the small portion that we've been able to access has given us some truly amazing discoveries.
See for Yourself
Roughly 1.2 miles of Inner Space Cavern is open to the public and has been since 1966. Portions that are publicly accessible include winding passages and large, open 'rooms' adorned with striking cave formations. Drapery columns and a large room known as the Ice Cream Parlor are highlights of the cave.
A variety of tours are available. These range from simple walking tours to more advanced wild cave spelunking tours. Check out the official Inner Space Cavern website to learn more about the various options available to the public.
The basic cave tour is known as the Adventure Tour. It lasts about an hour and includes parts of the cave that are flat, fully illuminated, and open enough that one can comfortably walk upright. The slightly longer Hidden Passages Tour is a bit more physically demanding, taking visitors through newly-opened passages that are at times narrower and less developed. Wear closed-toe shoes and expect some uneven ground.
The most challenging and rewarding tour is the Wild Cave Tour. Lasting up to 4 hours, this tour involves hiking, climbing, crawling, and squeezing through tight spots but rewards visitors with an opportunity to experience parts of Inner Space Cavern that few ever see.

If you're a pet parent, you know that giving your pets a safe, healthy environment is a top priority. Whether you have a four-legged canine or a frisky feline, you want to protect your pet from dangers like injuries, diseases, and poisonous houseplants. To keep your pets safe, take some tips from our real estate agents, who suggest buying only non-toxic houseplants for your home.
Many homeowners don't realize that just a few nibbles from a poisonous plant can cause nausea and vomiting, tremors, seizures, and even death to pets. If you're a pet owner and looking for Georgetown homes for sale, make sure to research indoor plants that are non-toxic to dogs and cats. Here are just a few that are safe for your pets.
African Violets
If your home gets a lot of indirect sunlight, African violets will fill your rooms with flowers in brilliant hues of pink, lavender, and purple. They thrive in 68–77 degree temperatures, as long as you keep them slightly watered and away from drafts. If your curious cat decides to eat the leaves or blooms, the plant may look wounded, but your cat will be fine.
Baby Tears
This plant's trailing tendrils were designed to attract curious cats. Even if you place this plant on high shelves or in hanging baskets, your clever kitty may still be tempted to investigate. But don't worry, it's perfectly safe for your kitty and a good choice for beginner green thumbs. Just choose a location with filtered light and warm temperatures, then keep the soil moist.
Bird's Nest Ferns
This squiggly green fern thrives on low light and humidity, so it's perfect in bathrooms and windows near the kitchen sink. It likes warmer temperatures and quickly adds organic appeal to indoor spaces. Bird's nest ferns grow well in pots and planters with loose, fast-draining soil. When the soil feels dry, just give it a little water and fertilizer in the spring and summer.
Date Palms
If you want to protect your pets and wow your guests, buy a few date palms for your home. With tall stems and delicate leaves, date palms, like Areca palms, bamboo palms, and Chinese fan palms, grow tall, making good floor plants that add height and texture to small rooms. For best growth, keep date palms and other types of palms in bright, indirect sunlight and don't over-water.
Friendship Plants
Friendship plants produce intricately-patterned bright green leaves that feel like velvet. They're lovely to look at and completely harmless to your pets. Since they are small plants that only grow 6–12 inches high, they make great decorative accents on shelves and tables. They tolerate low light with a few hours of sunlight each day and occasionally flower with pale pink buds.
Orchids
Few houseplants add as much elegant beauty to a home as orchids, and luckily they pose no dangers to dogs or cats. With tall stalks, large green leaves, and colorful flowers, orchids become focal points wherever they're placed. Orchids bloom each year for about three months. When the flowers die off, the blooms return the following season.
Peperomia Plants
Peperomia plants make great houseplants because they're easy to grow and they clean the air. There are many varieties, each with slightly different characteristics, but they all grow well in temperatures of 65–80 degrees with minimal watering. The watermelon peperomia has leaves that resemble watermelon rhine with distinct dark green stripes.
